Ao Oni (青鬼 Ao Oni ) is a 2014 horror film directed by Daisuke Kobayashi [1]. The film is an official spin-off title based on the game [2]. It was released in Japanese cinemas on 5 July 2014.
The film stars Anna Iriyama as Anna, Kenta Suga as Shun, Syo Jinnai as Takuro, Seiya as Hiroshi, Seika Furuhata as Mika, and Riku Ozeki as Takeshi [3].
The Bluray and DVD were released on 10 December 2014 [4].
A film sequel is set for a July 2015 release.
Reception
Ao Oni opened in 80 movie theaters across Japan on 4 July 2014, and although critically panned, was a commercial success [5]. The film grossed over 200 million yen (USD $16.6 million) and set a record number of paid viewers on Japanese streaming site Niconico [6].
Sequel
A sequel film was announced in Spring 2015 titled "ver.2.0 New Chapter". Famitsu began streaming a teaser trailer in late March [7]. Slated for a Summer release, the film reprises none of the original cast or crew, and is said to more closely follow the storyline of the game [8].
