A Blueberry Farm (ブルーベリー農園 Blueberry Farm) is any jail cell or room in the series that hosts or imprisons a number of Ao Onis. Blueberry Farms first appeared in Version 3.0, and since became a recurrent element in the series.
Ao Oni (Game)
Version 3.0
In this version, the Blueberry Farm is encountered on the 5th floor, which appears once the two metal pieces have been used. Once the player has completed the lights out puzzle in the aforementioned floor, the entrance to the Blueberry Farm will open.
The room is white with blue scribbles all across the floor, and is separated into two areas: A massive jail cell containing inumerous variants, and a smaller, empty room with Hundred Eyes Oni. The following variants are present in the jail cell:
Once the player obtains the front door key, which is beneath Hundred Eyes Oni, the entrance to the lights out puzzle will close after leaving, making it impossible to return to this Blueberry Farm.
Version 6.23
In this version, the Blueberry Farm is found down the Ruins' basement, near the jail cell area, although its door is locked. Once the player cracks the safe in the study room, the key to the door is obtained.
The room is a relatively big jail cell, with moldy walls and white floorboards. The following variants are present in the jail cell:
- Squatto Oni
- Jellyfish Oni
- Hundred Eyes Oni
- Hunchback Oni
- Fuwatty
- Slug Oni
- 4th Dimension Oni
Once the player reaches near the cell door, Hunchback Oni opens the door and starts chase, with Fuwatty following suit. The exit is locked during this chase, and will only make a locked noise when the player interacts with it. Once Hunchback Oni reaches near the player, the door suddenly reopens, ending the chase immediately, with all the variants inside the room disappearing.
A frame featuring a blue piece is found at the left corner of the room. After taking the blue piece, Hiroshi is surprised when Takuro appears behind him and asks for them to stick together, which he obliges.
Remakes
All remakes use the same Blueberry Farm as the one seen in Version 6.23, with the following additions:
- Ao Oni 2016 adds back all of the variants seen in Version 3.0's Blueberry Farm that were previous cut, except Fang Oni. It also adds Blue Shrimp and a smaller version of it.
- Ao Oni (Mobile Remake) no longer has Fuwatty chase the player once Hunchback Oni opens the cell door. Additionally, the player only needs to interact with the door a couple times during the chase to open it, instead of waiting for Hunchback Oni.
While the Steam Port keeps it identical, Ai's Story has a room that is identical to the empty Blueberry Farm. In the bottom right corner of the room is a glowing orb, with Hunchback Oni surprise attacking the player when they get near it.
Literature
Ao Oni Mutation
After parting ways with Takuro, Hiroshi heads down to the annex detachment's basement. While the cells were empty, the boy ends up stumbling up a room with glass walls akin to an observation room, and another door in the back of the room. As he enters the room, weird noises can be heard from the other side, revealing to be inumerous monsters trapped within a giant, rusty jail cell.
From the demo play and story, the following variants are present in the jail cell:
- 2x Ao Oni
- 2x Fuwatty
- 4x Hundred Eyes Oni
- 3x Slug Oni
- Jellyfish Oni
- 4th Dimension Oni
- One-eyed monster
Note: The exact numbers are unknown. It is stated the jail cell might contain hundreds of monsters.
Opon entering, all monsters immediately take note of Hiroshi, while the boy looks both in fear and delight at the scene. The monsters start to become agitated, with an one-eyed monster gripping the bars and repeatedly attempting to break them, with the rest following suit.
Hiroshi attempts to open the door, before realizing it wouldn't open. As the boy scrambled to think of a way out, an Ao Oni suddenly breaks through the wall near the door, who held a iron pipe in its hand, leaving Hiroshi in a hopeless state.
Unexpectedly, however, the Ao Oni that had broken into the room started fighting the other monsters, allowing Hiroshi to take the opportunity and escape from the wall. Soon, it is revealed that the monster that had saved him was Takeshi's doppelganger. Once the monsters from the Blueberry Farm are able to escape their cells, the doppelganger uses himself as bait, before setting the entire basement on fire with lighter oil, killing all of the monsters inside.
Ao Oni 2
Main Story
In this scenario, a Blueberry Farm can be found down in the school's basement, although its door is locked. The key o the door is found hidden in a shelf.
The room is a massive jail cell, with concrete walls and smooth tiling. The following variants are present in the jail cell:
- Ao Oni / Chosen Mask
- 2x Fuwatty
- 2x Squatto Oni
- Jellyfish Oni
- Hunchback Oni
- Slug Oni
- 4th Dimension Oni
- Chibi Oni
Once entering the room, the Ao Oni will open the jail cell door, starting a chase alongside all other variants. The chase ends once the timer has ran out, leaving an empty Blueberry Farm behind. The room connects to a small room in its back.
Principal's Scenario
In this scenario, as the Principal notices and follows a student after leaving his office, he ends up following her all the way to a Blueberry Farm.
The Blueberry Farm in this scenario is split into two parts: A smaller jail cell, covered in blue from the floor to outer walls, containing Spider Oni, and a relatively big jail cell with the same appearance and variants as the main game's.
When the Principal follows the student into the second part of the Blueberry Farm, the camera lingers a bit at the Spider Oni's jail cell, where then a glimpse of it is seen in the darkness. Once inside, the Principal is horrified at the scene from inside the jail cell, but is interrupted by the sudden appearance of an Ao Oni from the door he came from. The only place the player can ran to is a small room, where they must hide or be caught by the horde of monsters looking for them.
After the chase, Principal is greeted by the student infront of the now ruined, covered in blue jail cell, where she says something he does not understand and runs away without answering his questions, with the door locking behind her. In the back of the cell is a door, which leads to an area where the player must solve some puzzles before obtaining the key to the exit.
Once leaving, the cell which contained Spider Oni has been similarly ruined, letting it loose.
Ao Oni 3
Takeshi's Scenario
In this scenario, a Blueberry Farm can be found up a set of stairs near the forest area where the player obtains the photo depicting a variety of Onis, although it is locked by a numberpad. The player must take the photo to the room with the same photo and press on the head of the Oni with the missing horns in the digital screen to receive the code to it.
This Blueberry Farm differs from prior iterations, as it is not a jail cell, but instead a pit, with its floorboards being covered in blue. The pit takes up the middle of the room, with a thin floor connecting the remaining halves. Both halves take a stone appearances, with barricades blocking most of their edges aside from the connecting floor.
The following variants are present in the jail cell:
- 2x Squatto Oni
- Jellyfish Oni
- Hundred Eyes Oni
- Hunchback Oni
- 2x Slug Oni
- Chibi Oni
- Spider Oni
- Bat Oni
The player has to traverse through the thin floor carefully, making sure to not make a wrong move and fall down into the pit below. Middle way through, Takeshi will lose a balance, in which the player has to hold down the screen to make sure he doesn't fall. Once the player reaches the other side, they'll find a box with a button, where then an Ao Oni breaks through the wall and starts a chase. The Ao Oni is faster when walking on the thin floor, meaning the distance between it and Takeshi slowly shortens until Takeshi is able to reach the other side.
Tetsuya's Scenario
In this scenario, a Blueberry Farm can be found in the area beneath the altar. In the center room of the area, a massive cell with floorboards covered in blue can be spotted, where two Squatto Onis idly squat. This Blueberry Farm is not interactable, nor does it even change state, existing only as a background element.
Outside Appearances
In Ao Oni: The Blue Monster, a Blueberry Farm makes an appearance in episode 3, taking the appearance of Version 6.23's. It is first seen during the Takuro barberque, then seen again as Ao Oni serves Hiroshi rice in the background, and then seen for one last time as the variants inside fall asleep, with Takuro's body turned to bones.
The following variants are present in the jail cell:
- Squatto Oni
- Jellyfish Oni
- Hundred Eyes Oni
- Hunchback Oni
- Slug Oni
- Flying Oni
- Clock Oni
Jellyfish Oni and Hunchback Oni are the only visible during the second segment. Hundred Eyes Oni does not appear during the barbeque, but does appear when all variants fall asleep.

Trivia
- The "Blueberry" in the room's name refers to the common description of the Ao Onis in-universe as "Blueberry Monsters" or "Blueberry Giants".
- Hundred Eyes Oni is the only variant from Version 6.23 to not reappear in Ao Oni 2's Blueberry Farm.
- During both Blueberry Farm chases, there's always a set order of which variants enters the room first. The order goes: Fuwatty, Jellyfish Oni, Ao Oni, 4th Dimension Oni, Hunchback Oni, Slug Oni, Chibi Oni, Squatto Oni.
- The only exception to this is the chaser, which depends on how close it was to the player.
- If the player waits for a couple of seconds after entering the Blueberry Farm in Principal's scenario, the variants inside the Blueberry Farm won't attack.
- Squatto Oni and Jellyfish Oni have appeared the most times in all of the Blueberry Farms, both only being absent in 1. Although, they are absent from different ones: Squatto Oni is absent from the novels, while Jellyfish Oni is absent from Tetsuya's scenario.
- Additionally, Squatto Oni has the largest quantity of instances seen in all Blueberry Farms, as it appears as two in nearly all of them.
