Hiroshi (ひろし Hiroshi?) is the main protagonist of Ao Oni. He is the character that the player controls during the entirety of the game (except for Version 1.1, where the player also gets to control Kazuya twice throughout the game). Though in the first novel and movie, he is not the main protagonist. He is a secondary character in the first novel and the tritagonist in the movie. He returns to the position of main protagonist throughout the rest of the novel series.

Appearance[]

Hiroshi is usually portrayed with silver hair, glasses, wearing a white scarf, and in a school uniform throughout the game and novel. Though in Version 1.1, he has dark hair, a different uniform on, different eye color, glasses and scarf. In the movie, his looks greatly differ from his original depictions. In the novel he wears a blue framed square type glasses, it switches whether the frame is top or bottom.

in the Fragments Novel, Shun describes that “he has a hard chest and chiseled abs.” Both Mari and Shun, describe him as having "long lashes." Other times he was described to look like a European model and looking like a china doll with soap white skin. He also was described with glossy lips. He also has a watch on his left hand.

Personality[]

Ao Oni (Game)[]

Hiroshi-doubts-oni

Hiroshi doubting the monster in the opening cutscene.

At the start of the game, Hiroshi dismisses the existence of monsters in the mansion by saying it is "scientifically impossible". However, he runs into Ao Oni shortly after. Hiroshi appears to be the "brainiac" of the group and shows this by completing the daunting puzzles present within the mansion, while still avoiding the monster. After finding out that he and his friends are trapped in the mansion, Hiroshi begins to try and find a way out so everyone can escape alive.

In Version 3.0 and Version 6.23, Hiroshi is the only survivor of the mansion, and there's nothing the player can do about it.

In Version 5.2, it is possible to rescue everyone, however, the player can also choose to leave alone, in which case, Hiroshi will be the only survivor.

In Version 1.1, multiple characters survive, but not everyone - those characters are Hiroshi, Kazuya, and Mika. Takeshi may have also survived, but it's unknown, due to him being never seen again after being found in the closet.

in Ao Oni X, he seems to have a moral compass, at the end of a route, he says, “We should go save your sister.” Even though they left Chitose’s sister at the town, Hiroshi wants to go back and save her.

Ao Oni (Novel)[]

The first-year classroom's prodigy, Hiroshi, wears his school uniform at all times. Extremely serious, he almost always speaks with a formal tone. He does not believe in anything that cannot be scientifically proven (Includes the supernatural, God, Demons, heaven, or hell). He is mostly seen with Shun in most of the images. Later on in the series, he takes his protagonist title back and is teaming up with Shun and Anna to save his "friends" from the monster's curse. It seems that in Fragments that he starts developing a crush on Mari because he "cares" about her.

It seems he also has a low self esteem, in Fragments, his dad says that he is "better" than everyone else and that Hiroshi always knew he was "weird,” and when Anna told him Shun was being bullied he thought if anything he should’ve been the one getting bullied. In Ao Oni Persuasion, he says he doesn’t have muscle like Takuro or is as soft as Mika, which is untrue because he has muscle and abs. He is embarrassed to be in the same house as his mom he doesn't understand why she pretends to be happy. He admires Shun greatly and that he is creative unlike he was, who thought scientifically. He has a love for bug catching and the European flair.

Ao Oni Movie[]

As the movie progresses, the other kids have approached the jailhouse. We are then introduced to Hiroshi, who is collecting plant life not far from the jailhouse in a field; he encounters the group of kids. He explains his fascination with larvae until he is interrupted by Takuro. Upon entering the mansion, Hiroshi goes to check out a sound which is revealed to be a broken plate with a slimy substance covering it, Hiroshi exits the kitchen and checks other parts of the jailhouse. A while later, Hiroshi meets up with the others briefly and welcomes Anna to join the group. Still, suddenly Hiroshi goes off on his own after Mika's death. Hiroshi meets up with Anna and Shun; we then see Hiroshi swiftly solve the piano puzzle before entering the Annex. Hiroshi turns on the light before being struck by Takuro twice using a wooden plank, and he falls unconscious until Takuro is killed. Anna wakes up Hiroshi, and they both escape. Upon running from the Oni, Hiroshi falls due to his head injury and tells Anna to run and leave him. Hiroshi rises to his feet and screams at Anna for her to run, as she does so. Hiroshi is run over by the Oni, making his fate unknown as the creature didn't kill him.
