Description[]
Mari Kawatani (or “川谷マリ ”)is a bit of a plain Jane. Her black hair is in a ponytail and she wears the school uniform and she wears glasses overtop her brown eyes. She also has a crush on Hiroshi.
Novel (Ao Oni Forever)[]
[1]Mari is a classmate who's a bit of a plain Jane but has a serious personality. Unfortunately, she came to school early today on cleaning duty. She is shown going to school early with Kazuya and Anna uses gossip about Mari and Kazuya to distract them. It goes wrong when Mari sees the fuwatti and passes out. She is seen last talking to Anna because of her having a cold and left to get water for her medicine, but because the water has been contaminated, she turns into an oni.
Ao oni Guide Book[]
Mari at the start of the short novel expresses how she loves Marigolds because they have her name in it. She is worried as it is drying outside in the sun. She wouldn't usually run in the halls but she did when running to water the Marigolds. When she makes it to the gardening club area, she realizes that the watering can was gone, she looked over and there Hiroshi was watching ants. Hiroshi hadn't noticed Mari the first time but it caught his attention because Mari was watering the marigolds. Hiroshi tells her not to overwater the portulaca because of how resistant it is to dryness and overwatering can cause rooting. Hiroshi asks her if she knows why bugs can't walk with four legs like other animals if it was stable enough? Marie didn't understand and that's when she understood that she had "special feelings" for Hiroshi.
It then skips to a part about a basketball game. Mari wasn't watching the game or Takuro but on Hiroshi. After the game, she congratulates Hiroshi for scoring a point. Then to a part where Mari was admiring Hiroshi instead of listening to the lecture. Her chest become painful, her nose was hurting, and the inner corner of her eyes started to get hot. She decided it was time to get talking to Hiroshi. They talked about bugs and he said he saw a butterfly at the jailhouse. Mari then goes to the jailhouse with her childhood friend Sacchi, who then suggests to make a love letter for Hiroshi. It took her 2 days to write and it was the last day til Summer. He declines her love letter and she cries but it turns out, it was a misunderstanding. He actually agrees to studying with her over the summer. She then sees a bug with four legs but it's actually hiding it and she fell and Hiroshi caught her.
